Survivor's Guilt
Today's assignment was to test the fittings of a newly produced E.G.O. Since I was a new addtion, Mister Hohenheim wanted to see my capabilities.
...I was surprised, you know. To hear that they took me in after...everything.
Trying not to think about the elephant in the room was difficult though...
Yuri
LCE: Dimension Shredder
Um...so far, it seems to fit me perfectly. It's almost as if there's some kind of resonance.
Hoheheim
LCE: AEDD
That would be precisely why I chose you, yes. I noticed through the body scan from a while ago that you exhibited great compability with Dimension Shredder.
Hoheheim
LCE: AEDD
And of course, I was right as usual. All we need is to see how long it holds up.
Dimension Shredder, huh.
I've vaguely heard of this abnormality's story, but it struck something in me, I like to think. Being an aimless wanderer, with no home.
He seemed to have read me like the back of his hand. I wish I could think that's strange.
Yuri
LCE: Dimension Shredder
Mister Hohenheim, you don't mind if I ask you something unrelated, right?
Hoheheim
LCE: AEDD
Well, you know I am a very busy man. If you want to, try your luck and I'll see if it's worth answering.
Mister Hohenheim and I were both agents from the fallen L Corp. I've heard in passing about his achievements and whatnot.
I can't help but see him as someone I look up to. Because frankly, he handled everything better than I ever could.
But surely, he must feel pained too.
Yuri
LCE: Dimension Shredder
...Does it get to you sometimes? Having survived the fall?
Hoheheim
LCE: AEDD
...!!!
He furrowed his eyebrows, and I know I must have annoyed him with such a question.
Well, in hindsight, asking him during an experiment wasn't really...a good idea. I don't blame him for not wanting to entertain me.
Hoheheim
LCE: AEDD
Yuri. I shall be completely honest with you.
Hoheheim
LCE: AEDD
You need to grow a spine and move on from whatever is weighing you down.
Yuri
LCE: Dimension Shredder
But...
Hoheheim
LCE: AEDD
Don't you get it? We lived, they did not. Isn't it enough that you and I are here, doing our own research for something greater instead of talking about useless things?
Hoheheim
LCE: AEDD
Keep your chin up already. There's no use thinking about this anymore.
That answer was enough to make my chest hurt. Still, I could tell that he was suffering inside. Not from what I asked, but from knowing he's facing his fears in a different way from mine.
Yuri
LCE: Dimension Shredder
...I suppose you're right.
Hoheheim
LCE: AEDD
Now, go stand over there while I examine my notes.
It was better for me to just let it slide. Who was I to pester him about it again?
I know I won't be able to talk to him properly anytime soon.
As I turned to walk away though, I could hear him muttering under his breath. Something that will race in my head for a bit.
Hoheheim
LCE: AEDD
Haah. She's no different from who I once was...
...And that only proved what I had been thinking even more.
